As my nervous system became more regulated, I noticed something unexpected: I stopped fighting myself as much.

Not because I achieved some zen state or mastered my reactions. But because when your nervous system isn't constantly scanning for threats, you have cognitive and emotional capacity for things other than survival. You can feel the difference between responding and reacting. Sometimes.

What people call "self-mastery" might just be having enough nervous system capacity to pause before choosing your next move. When you're not flooded with stress hormones, you can feel into what actually serves the situation instead of just doing whatever gets you through it fastest.

This isn't about controlling outcomes or forcing harmony. It's about having enough internal space to choose your response consciously more often than not. Some days that choice looks wise. Other days it still looks like reactive chaos. But the percentage is shifting.

I used to think people who talked about "living in flow" were either privileged or delusional. Now I think they might just have regulated nervous systems. When you're not fighting your own biology constantly, there's space to work with life's momentum instead of against it.

This probably still sounds like spiritual bypassing. Maybe it is. But I can't deny that as the internal storm settled, different choices became available. Not better choices necessarily, just different ones. Choices that come from awareness rather than pure survival reflex.
